But the social media giant’s new billionaire owner apparently snubbed the comedian.
“Fix what?” Musk tweeted back to Fallon on Wednesday morning as the hashtag was still trending.
Jimmy Fallon pleaded for Elon Musk to stop the false #RIPJimmyFallon from trending on Twitter on Tuesday night — but the social media giant’s new billionaire owner apparently snubbed the comedian.
“Elon, can you fix this? #RIPJimmyFallon,” Fallon tweeted Tuesday night as the hashtag began trending like wildfire.
By Wednesday morning, Musk — who recently completed his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter and said his goal was to make it the “most accurate” media platform — replied to the late-night TV host, “Fix what?” as the hashtag was still trending.

It was not immediately clear how #RIPJimmyFallon began trending, but some Twitter users said it started with a tweet showing fellow late-night TV host James Corden with the words: “Gone but not forgotten. Rest easy king Sept 19, 1974-Nov 15, 2022 #RIPJimmyFallon.”

Fallon, 48, was in fact born on September 19, 1974.
“Holy shit, this was a suprise [sic]. Thank you everyone for the likes and retweets,” the account later tweeted. “If you like stupid tweets like this feel free to follow me idk.”
Early Wednesday, it sent out another tweet, saying: “Since this is seriously blowing up, thought I’d just comment that this is satire. Fallon is alive and hope he’s doing well.”
