Amanda crouched before the cat. It was clean despite being a stray, and something within her pushed her to reach out for it.
But the kitty meowed and turned on its heels, running past the road and into an alley overlooking the animal shelter. Amanda stood back up, perplexed by what had just happened. Little did she know that she’d see more of the cat soon.
