Sony Xperia 5 IV event: How to watch it and what to expect

With the Xperia 1 IV and the Xperia 10 IV announced earlier in the year and now available to buy, the focus for Sony Mobile turns to the Xperia 5 IV, its compact flagship.

In previous years, Sony has used IFA to launch new mobile devices and although the company isn’t holding an event in Berlin, it looks as though the timing is set for a launch a new phnoe into the middle of the IFA excitement.

Here’s everything you need to know about the next Sony Xperia event, including how to watch it and what to expect.

What to expect from the Sony Xperia 5 IV event

The teaser for the launch event flashes a couple of phrases across the screen including “be creative” and “go compact”, which point to the Xperia 5 IV. That logically follows the Sony Xperia launches we’ve already seen in 2022, with only the compact flagship device missing from the line-up.

Leaks have been relatively few, however, but with Sony you perhaps don’t need that many leaks to figure out what’s coming. The Xperia 5 typically takes the spec of the Xperia 1 and scales it down, so we’d expect a similar triple camera system on the rear and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, so there’s plenty of power in a smaller device. We’d expect it to stick to a 6.1-inch display.

We’re not sure if it will have exactly the same camera system, given that the Xperia 1 IV introduced a zoom lens arrangement, which might not fit into the smaller body that the Xperia 5 IV offers.

We expect the design to be more or less the same as the Sony Xperia 5 III – Sony seems to be sticking to its 21:9 display format – but we’re expecting minor tweaks. A previous leak suggested an increased battery capacity, which would be welcomed.
