Pencils made from old newspapers could reduce pollution

When left to break down in landfills, paper emits methane, which can trap 20 times more heat in the atmosphere than CO2.
Print readership is up in Kenya, but the literacy rate is relatively low, as many can’t afford to buy school supplies.
The company, Momo Pencils, donates a portion of its pencils to needy schoolchildren. 

When dumped in landfills, paper is one of the worst contributors to greenhouse gasses. Two brothers in Kenya are saving old newspapers from that fate by turning them into pencils that feel like they’re made with real wood.
