Today, I am pleased to announce a Master’s in Management (MSM) in digital healthcare transformation from D’Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University, a top 50 U.S. university, and Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, ranked the best U.S. hospital. This is the first time a university and industry leader have collaborated to create a degree on Coursera.
The year-long program will prepare those in healthcare, such as nurses, clinicians, and case managers, for leadership roles and help current managers and executives in other industries break into healthcare. There is a dire need for U.S. healthcare workers amid an unprecedented shortage, which is expected to grow to 3.2 million jobs by 2026. Globally, the shortage is projected to be 18 million by 2030.
The program contains live course sessions, which can be watched on-demand to maximize flexibility, and weekly faculty connect sessions with industry-leading Mayo Clinic and Northeastern experts. To help students master the skills needed for career advancement, they will analyze real-world Mayo Clinic case studies, engage in hands-on projects, and receive continual faculty feedback.
Students will learn how to make strategic decisions to meet organizational objectives, introduce innovations to improve system-wide efficiency, and implement digital health tools to enhance the patient experience, from diagnostics to wearable tech.
“Leveraging Mayo Clinic’s integrated approach to patient care and Northeastern University’s innovative teaching tools, we will bring insights and experience to learners seeking careers at the intersection of healthcare and technology,” said John Halamka, M.D., M.S., President, Mayo Clinic Platform.
“The program is future-focused, giving learners technical knowledge and human skills needed for the future of work in the healthcare field,” said Emery Trahan, interim dean of the D’Amore-McKim School of Business. “At the same time, much of the content can be applied right away on the job and help learners accelerate their careers in real-time.”
Northeastern professors and top Mayo Clinic executives optimized this employer-driven degree for career outcomes. Students will leave the program with a robust portfolio of work, connections to a global student body, and access to Northeastern’s career services. Ninety-seven percent of Northeastern graduates are employed or in future education within nine months of graduation.
We are honored to collaborate with Northeastern University, ranked one of the most innovative U.S. universities, and Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science to prepare the next generation of global healthcare leaders.
