Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, died on Tuesday at 92.
Gorbachev instituted major reforms that contributed to the collapse of the USSR in 1991.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990 for his role in bringing a peaceful end to the Cold War.
