Mayor Paulette Guajardo faces off against John Wright in Corpus Christi, Texas’ mayoral election

Incumbent Mayor Paulette Guajardo is running against John Wright in Corpus Christi, Texas’ mayoral race.

Polls close in the state at 7 p.m. local time. Given the state has multiple timezones, the first polls close at 8 p.m. EST and the last polls close at 9 p.m. EST.

Guajardo, first elected in 2019, is running for her second mayoral term. Prior to her time as mayor, she served on the Corpus Christi City Council for two terms and owned a small business for 15 years. According to her website, Guajardo is focused on building the economy, strengthening public safety, and improving city infrastructure. 

Wright, her challenger, is a roofer and crane operator. Wright’s application for a place on the ballot raised questions with a local news outlet when it found that his application lists a UPS store as his residential address. Wright claims to have lived in Corpus Christi for nearly six years.
