Marriott’s business credit cards just got even more valuable thanks to an increased welcome bonus, Gold elite status, and a room rate discount

The Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex is adding three new benefits and launching an increased welcome bonus.

The Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card just added new benefits that make it more useful for Marriott stays and points earning.
Cardholders now get Gold elite status, a 7% discount on standard room rates, and 4x points at restaurants worldwide, plus a welcome bonus of Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card.
These new benefits are also available on the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Credit Card, which is no longer open to new applicants.

If you’re a small business owner and Marriott hotels are your properties of choice, the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card could be a good way to make the most of your Marriott stays and get you closer to award stays by earning you points on every purchase. This is especially true now, as the card has just added some benefits that make it even more valuable—and there’s no increase to the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card annual fee.

If you have the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Credit Card from Chase, you’ll also get access to these new benefits. However, that card is no longer open to new applicants, so you can’t get it if you don’t have it already, and there will be no elevated welcome bonus offer since applications are closed.

We’re focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won’t be worth it if you’re paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it’s important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.

New Marriott Bonvoy business credit card benefits

The Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card and Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Credit Card are adding three new benefits that make them even better options for booking Marriott Bonvoy hotel stays and earning points to get you to your next Marriott stay booked on points.

7% standard room rate discount

If you travel a lot for work and prefer to stay at Marriott Bonvoy properties, this new discount could help reduce your expenses. Now, when you book a standard guest room with cash directly through Marriott using your Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card or Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business card, you’ll get a 7% discount. Note that this only applies to cash rates, so you won’t be able to use this to get a discounted award rate. It also only applies to standard rooms, so you can’t use the discount to save on booking a suite.

4x Marriott points at restaurants worldwide

The Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card and Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business card already offered 4x points at U.S. restaurants, but now they will offer 4x Marriott points at restaurants worldwide. Both cards have no foreign transaction fees, so they’re a good option to take with you abroad if your priority is earning as many Marriott points as possible on your spending.

Complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold elite status

This is another nice upgrade: Instead of Silver elite status, which comes with modest perks like priority late checkout and 10% bonus points on paid stays, the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card and Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business card will now give cardholders Marriott Bonvoy Gold elite status.

Gold elite status gets you better perks, including a 25% points bonus on paid Marriott stays, upgrades to enhanced rooms when available, and a welcome gift of points.

If you don’t have a Marriott credit card that gets you elite status, earning Gold status requires staying 25 paid nights at Marriott Bonvoy hotels per year, so the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card provides a helpful shortcut. Plus, the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card (and the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business card) gives you 15 elite night credits toward Marriott status each calendar year, which means you’d have 30 night credits toward Platinum elite status, which is even more valuable than Gold.

Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex: New welcome bonus of 125,000 points

In addition to these three new perks, the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card is launching an elevated welcome bonus of Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card. This offer is 50,000 points higher than the previous welcome bonus of 75,000 Marriott points after spending $3,000 in the first three months, though it does have a higher spending requirement.

Personal Finance Insider values Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents apiece, so the new welcome offer could get you Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card in value. But depending on how you redeem your Marriott points — especially if you’re looking at rooms that cost hundreds of dollars per night — the welcome bonus could be even more valuable.

This elevated intro bonus offer will only be available through August 31, 2022, so don’t wait to apply if you’re interested in this card.
