“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile,” the film based on the classic children’s book by author Bernard Waber, is now available to buy on-demand. You can purchase the musical comedy to watch at home from Amazon, Google, Apple TV and Vudu for $20. A cheaper rental option is expected to become available on December 13. 

When the Primm family moves to New York, their son Josh struggles to adapt to his new life. But when he meets Lyle, a singing crocodile living in their attic, the two quickly become best friends. However, danger arises when an evil neighbor, Mr. Grumps, threatens Lyle. The Primms must then work together with Lyle’s owner to save the lovable crocodile.

Singer Shawn Mendes stars as the musically gifted crocodile. He’s joined by Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”), Constance Wu (“Crazy Rich Asians”), Winslow Fegley (“Nightbooks”), Scoot McNairy (“Argo”), and Brett Gelman (“Stranger Things”). 

“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is written by Will Davies (“Flushed Away”) and directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon (“Blades of Glory”). It’s produced by Speck, Gordon, and Hutch Parker (“Logan”).

“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is now available to watch on-demand through digital retailers like Amazon, Vudu, Apple TV, and Google. It costs $20 to buy the movie in up to 4K quality.

After you purchase “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile,” you’ll be able to stream it whenever you like with no restrictions. However, if you don’t mind waiting a few weeks, you might want to hold off until December 13 when a cheaper rental option is expected to launch. 

You usually get 30 days to start watching a rental and then 48 hours to finish it after you hit play. Rental pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but most new releases get priced at around $6.

Digital retailer apps are available on most smart TVs, mobile devices, media players, gaming consoles, and internet browsers across major brands. Check the digital service you choose to ensure your device is supported by its app.

When will ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ be available on Netflix?

“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is not yet available to stream on Netflix, but it’s expected to appear on the service at some point in the future since Sony and Netflix have an active streaming agreement.  

The April 2021 deal says that all of Sony’s new theatrical releases will come to Netflix after they play in theaters. Though there’s no official release window, previous Sony films, like “Bullet Train,” hit Netflix within 120 days of their release. If “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” follows the same pattern, it could be on Netflix as soon as February 4.

Is ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ worth watching?

“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” received generally positive reviews. It currently holds a “72% Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised the film’s sweet and endearing moments, but weren’t thrilled about its haphazard nature.

Is ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ based on a book?

“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is based on the classic children’s book of the same name by author Bernard Waber. The book was published in 1965, and it’s actually a sequel to the 1962 book “The House on East 88th Street.” Along with the 2022 film, the books were previously adapted into an animated musical on HBO in 1987.
