Texas, a Republican bastion that in recent cycles has flirted with swing state status, gained two congressional seats as part of the most recent redistricting cycle and will send 38 members to Congress.
Of those races, three in particular — in Texas’ 15th District, its 28th District, and 34th District — have national implictions as the House of Representatives will be decided in such competitive districts. The 34th features a rare member-versus-member general election.
Republican Gov. Greg Abbott will also face voters in a bid for re-election against Democrat Beto O’Rourke, and the state has an intriguing race for attorney general, where embattled Republican Ken Paxton is up for re-election. The cities of Corpus Christi and Austin will cast ballots for mayor.
