iOS 16 has a new feature that lets you track and manage your medications in your iPhone’s Health app — here’s how to use it

Medication tracking is among the new features added to the iPhone Health app with iOS 16.

You can track your medication, dosage, and schedule in the Health app on your iPhone using iOS 16.
To add a medication to the Health app, browse for the Health Categories and go to Medications.
After setting up a medication, you’ll get notifications to stay on your schedule and can log each dosage.

Whether it’s antibiotics for a short-term illness or life-long medication for a chronic condition, remembering to take your medication is critical — the correct dosage at the right time, for the length of time prescribed. You can use your iPhone’s Health app as a medication tracker to simplify all of that. The app now includes the ability to track and manage your medication in iOS 16.

To use the Health app’s medication tracker, your iPhone needs to be running iOS 16 or later. If you’re not sure, you should check which version of iOS your iPhone is running and update your iPhone if needed.

How to add a new medication to the iPhone Health app

1. Start the Health app and then tap Browse at the bottom of the screen.

2. In the Health Categories section, tap Medications

3. Tap Add a Medication.

You can add information about your medication to the Health app.

4. On the Add Medication page, search for your medication by name or tap the Camera icon and scan the label of your medication.

5. Set the frequency and time of day for your medication.

Specify when your medication should be taken and your iPhone will remind at the appropriate time.

6. On the Choose the Shape page, you can pick the shape of the pill or container to help you remember which medication this entry is associated with. Then pick a color on the Choose Colors page.

8. On the Medical Interactions page, you can indicate if the Health app should warn you about any possible interactions with substances like alcohol, cannabis or tobacco. Turn any of these on by swiping the buttons to the right, then tap Done

After setting up a medication and entering its schedule information, you will get notifications when it is time to take the medication.

You can change the details for any medication at any time. Start the Health app and tap Browse. Tap Medications, and then tap the medication in the Your Medications section. On the details page for your medicine, find the section you want to adjust — like the schedule, or medication details — and tap Edit to make changes.
