Are you ready to hear yourself sing your favorite songs? You’re in luck.
Today (Dec. 6), Apple Music announced Apple Music Sing, a new feature that combines adjustable vocal volume and more accurate lyric display, making it perfect for karaoke. Tens of millions of songs will be available to sing along to at launch later this month, along with 50 curated playlists. It will be in beta soon and rolled out later this month to all customers.
With “vocal control,” users will be able to isolate the vocals and adjust the volume. Whether you want to be drowned out by the original singer or you want to sing along to a karaoke version of the song, Sing has you covered. “We built an on-device machine learning algorithm that can process music in real time, finding the vocal parts and neatly isolating them from the rest of the song,” an Apple spokesperson told Mashable. To use vocal control, tap the mic button on lyric view and slide it to your desired volume.

In addition to vocal control, Apple enhanced their lyrics to “real-time lyrics.” Now lyrics are synched beat-by-beat and will be animated by individual syllable as they play, just like they do in karaoke rooms. Real-time lyrics also separate main vocals from backing vocals, making it easier than ever to sing along to songs more accurately.
Spotify released a similar feature called Spotify Karaoke back in June. Spotify Karaoke judges the accuracy of users’ performances and gives them a score out of 100. Though, it lacks isolated lyric volume control. Apple Music Sing is for those who take karaoke a little bit more seriously.
Apple Music Sing will be available on the latest models of your Apple devices, including the Apple TV 4K for all your holiday party needs.
