A British Airways passenger had to pay $400 to get her iPad back after leaving it on a plane

Janice Gordon flew from Montreal to London last month.

A British Airways passenger paid more than $400 to get her iPad back after leaving it on a plane.
Janice Gordon was told she couldn’t go back on the plane to collect it for security reasons.
The lost property office was closed when she passed through Heathrow again a fortnight later.

A British Airways passenger had to spend about $400 to get her iPad back after she left it on a plane, the Daily Mirror reported.

Janice Gordon, 67, realized she left her device behind after reaching the terminal at Heathrow following a flight from Montreal, Canada last month.

“I got off the plane and through security, then went to the gate for Bahrain flight. It was then that I realised that my iPad was missing, maybe 40 minutes after getting off the plane,” she told the newspaper.

She asked a British Airways staff member if she could get it back but was told she couldn’t return to the aircraft, according to the report.

“I asked the British Airways lady at the boarding gate if someone could take me back to the plane, but she said no due to security and that it would have already been taken to the lost and found office,” Gordon said.

The retired dental receptionist then had to board a connecting flight to Bahrain. After passing through Heathrow again two weeks later she was told that the lost property office was shut.

Gordon told the Mirror she had to pay $230 to get the iPad sent to her, as well as a $48.93 service fee and $125 for taxes and charges, bringing the total to just over $400.

Bagport, which runs Heathrow’s lost property office, and British Airways did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider.
