The annual EE Pocket-lint Awards will celebrate 19 main categories from Best Flagship Phone and Best Game to Best Laptop and Best Speaker.
To be nominated in our Awards, all products and devices must have been reviewed by us in full over the last 12 months and as you can imagine, there are some fantastic contenders.
The Best Gaming/VR Device category focuses on the best consoles and VR headsets and it was an exciting year this year.
Here are the Shortlisted nominees for Best Gaming/VR Device 2022:

You can click on each of the links above to read our full reviews on each nomination, which will give you an idea as to why they have been nominated.
Meta Quest 2
The Meta Quest 2 is a brilliant VR headset. Hand tracking, intelligent battery management, enhanced visuals, and the ability to play PC-level VR games via Oculus Link make the Quest 2 incredibly appealing. We’re hard-pressed to find almost anything negative to say about it – and if VR is your thing then we’re sure you’ll feel the same.
Nintendo Switch OLED
The OLED model is clearly the best of Nintendo’s line-up. Its bigger, brighter and altogether better screen undeniably makes for a top experience.
It’s not a game-changing experience like the original was, perhaps, but it’s still one of the best mobile console experiences on the planet right now.
Pico 4
The Pico 4 is a fantastic VR headset that beats its competition in almost all areas. It’s more comfortable, has better image fidelity, more RAM and is offered at a slightly lower price.
If you have access to a gaming PC, you can play almost any VR game either tethered or wirelessly. There’s also a standalone library of games you can access, so plenty of possibilities.
PlayStation 5
The PS5 is an excellent piece of home entertainment kit and something to truly covet.
This is an undeniably superb machine, a beast of a machine, both in potential and actual size. It has impressive game support, with 4K 60fps graphics almost a default. There’s plenty to love with the PlayStation 5, which is part of the reason why it was so hard to get hold of.
Valve Steam Deck
The Steam Deck is undoubtedly a fantastic piece of gaming hardware. We like to think of it as a grown-up version of the Switch, but, more than that, it’s an outstanding alternative for PC gamers who want to play away from their main machine.
It’s easy to game on, it’s easy to pick up and put down on a whim and it’s surprisingly capable too. What more could you want from a gaming device?
Xbox Series X
The Xbox Series X is undoubtedly an impressive game console. In fact, we’d go as far as to say it’s barely a games console in the traditional sense at all. It’s a gaming PC, with the exterior to match, but at a fraction of the price.
How the Pocket-lint Awards judging works
The winner for the Best Gaming / VR Device category is decided by the Pocket-lint team, along with a panel of expert judges from publications across the industry. Following the scoring process, the Best Gaming / VR Device winner for 2022 will be announced at an in-person event on 30 November 2022 in Central London, along with the winners from the other 19 categories.
A Product of the Year winner will also be announced, chosen from the winners of the 20 categories and a winner of the EE Superfast Award, will also be revealed at the event. We will be announcing the results on the Pocket-lint Twitter handle as they unfold on the night so keep an eye out there.
