Microsoft is holding a hardware event in October called the Microsoft Fall 2022 event.
The company is widely expected to launch its next generation of Surface devices during the autumn showcase. It hasn’t held an in-person Surface event since the pandemic. This one appears to be online-only, although it will be held just hours before Microsoft starts its Ignite conference – a big in-person event in Seattle for developers and IT professionals. But here’s everything you need to know about the Fall 2022 event, including what to expect.

What to expect from the Fall 2022 event
Microsoft said it plans to use its Fall 2022 event to “talk about devices”. The event’s invite has a Windows wallpaper-like image of watercolours with “save the date” handwritten text. The company might unveil a range of new Surface devices, but the rumour mill has been dialing in on two specific Surfaces within the last few weeks: A new 2-in-1 device (called the Surface Pro 9 and the latest Surface Laptop 5.
They’ll follow the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop 4.
According to WinFuture, both devices will be available with 12th Gen Intel CPUs, up from the 11th Gen models seen in last year’s Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop 4. You can expect to see the Intel Core i5-1235U in the entry-level models and a Core i7-1255U at the higher-end models. Storage should max out at 1TB, with up to 16GB of RAM. In addition to the Intel chips, you might be able to configure the Surface Pro 9 with an Arm-based processor. WinFuture claimed this silicon will be branded as the Microsoft SQ3, and it’s based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 platform. It should support 5G, too.
In terms of specs, the Surface Pro 9 could be available in green, light blue, black, and silver options. The screen size is expected to be 13.5-inches. The Surface Laptop 5 might launch as a 13.5-incher and a 15-inch device.
WinFuture said the Surface Pro 9 should start at €1,300 (£1,136/$1,288). The Surface Laptop 5 should start at €1,200 for its 13.5-inch model ( £1,048/$1,189) and €1,500 for the 15-inch version (£1,311/$1,487).
