Alaska Airlines is known for offering one of the best frequent flyer programs on the market — with ultra-valuable miles, and great award flight partners. If you travel on the airline, the Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card could well be worth the moderate Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card annual fee.
We’re focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won’t be worth it if you’re paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it’s important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.
What the Alaska Airlines Visa Credit Card gets you
Along with the huge welcome bonus, the Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card earns you unlimited 3 miles per dollar spent on eligible Alaska Airlines purchases including tickets, flight subscriptions, inflight food and beverages, lounge memberships, vacation packages, and cargo purchases. You’ll earn 1 mile per dollar spent on all other purchases.
Alaska Airlines miles are worth, on average, 1.5 cents apiece based on Insider’s points and miles valuations— but the exact value you’ll get depends on how you redeem your points.
The Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card comes with travel perks such as a free checked bag (worth $30), 20% back on inflight purchases, and an Alaska Airlines lounge pass discount. Plus, there’s no foreign transaction fee, so you won’t be charged when you use this card overseas.
Cardholders are also eligible to receive a free year of Grubhub+ membership (normally, $9.99 per month). A trial membership gets you free delivery (on orders over $12), exclusive offers, and access to donation matches at checkout.
That said, the Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card isn’t good for everyday spending since you only earn 1 point per dollar on non-Alaska purchases, and you can only redeem miles for Alaska flights or award flights with partners. So if you’re looking for more flexible redemption options, the Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card isn’t the right card for you.
How to redeem your Alaska miles
New cardholders earn Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card with the Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card. With this bonus, you’ll be able to cover the cost of a round-trip ticket anywhere Alaska Airlines flies. Since Alaska Airlines is part of the Oneworld alliance, you’ll have access to more than 1,000 destinations around the world.
The most valuable way to use your miles is by redeeming them for award flights on partners (such as British Airways, America Airlines, Icelandair, Japan Airlines, and Malaysia Airlines). But keep in mind that the Alaska flights award chart is distance-based (instead of based on the cash price of a ticket), which means longer flights will cost more miles.

You can also redeem miles towards a 50% discount on ticket booking (with limits).
It’s important to note that Alaska Airlines have separate award charts and prices for each of its partners. So if you’re booking with a partner, check to make sure you’re viewing the correct award chart before purchasing tickets.
It’s crucial that you don’t forget to use your miles in a timely manner, since Alaska miles expire after 24 months. So don’t wait too long before redeeming your bonus miles. And don’t wait too long to apply if you’re interested, since this offer isn’t sticking around for good.
