Maine residents can get up to $850 — more money than any other state.
Around 858,000 people in the state will receive these payments, the government said.

More than a dozen US states have plans to distribute relief payments in a bid to combat high inflation costs. Maine is offering $850 in stimulus money — more than any other state in the group.

Eligible recipients in the state include single filers who earn less than $100,000, head-of-household filers who earn less than $150,000, and joint filers who make less than $200,000 combined.

To be eligible, residents must file a 2021 income tax return as a full-time resident by October 31. The tax return can be filed here.

The state government said it was sending the $850 checks to an estimated 858,000 people.

Some checks were already mailed in June, but the remaining payments will delivered on a rolling basis until the end of the year, the government website said.

“As housing, food, and energy costs have increased, the stimulus checks will be a big help for low-income households struggling to cover higher costs,” Sarah Austin, director of policy and research at the Maine Center for Economic Policy, told Forbes last month.

Colorado is a close second when it comes to giving out the most money in relief payments. The state is offering up to $1,500 to joint tax filers, Gov. Jared Polis announced last month.
